Here is a Must Do Car Checklist For the Fall & Winter

As car show season comes to a close and temperatures begin to drop, now is the perfect time to start thinking about winter prep! Whether you are maintaining your weekend show car or getting your daily driver ready, completing this checklist before the real cold sets in will save you time and hassle. Check out all of our garage gear today right here at ZICMOTO.

Tire Care and Maintenance Inspecting your tires is critical for the fall and winter months. Be sure to check your tread depth, look for uneven wear, and ensure your tire pressure is set correctly. Proper inflation can significantly increase your gas mileage as temperatures swing. Keeping an eye on tread wear is especially crucial for maintaining traction when roads become wet, icy, snowy, or slick.

Battery Testing Testing your battery is another essential step. Just like tires, severe temperature drops can be tough on car batteries. Make sure your battery is holding a full charge, check that all terminals are clean and corrosion-free, and replace it if necessary. We actually just had to replace the battery in our RAV4—the moment we put the new one in, the engine cranked instantly and started much better than before!

Wiper Blades and Visibility Inspect your wiper blades to see if they are worn down or missing chunks of rubber. This time of year brings unpredictable weather—from heavy rain to sleet and snow—and having clear front and rear windshields is vital for safe driving.

Heater and Defroster Systems Since most of us haven't touched our car's heater in months, it’s a good idea to test the heating and defrosting systems now before temperatures plummet. You definitely don't want to discover a broken heater when you're running late, traveling for critical plans, or heading out to holiday celebrations with the family.

Checking Fluid Levels Many of us love retreating to our "man cave" garages for weekend projects, football games, or routine maintenance. Checking your vehicle's fluid levels now is much smarter than doing it when it's freezing outside. Take advantage of a warm garage in the early morning or late at night when you have an uninterrupted block of time to get those fluids topped off.

Washing, Waxing, and Paint Protection Lastly, give your car a thorough wash and wax while the ambient temperature still falls within the recommended application window for your detailing products. Doing this not only removes built-up road grime, but it also creates a protective layer over your paint for the harsh winter months ahead. A solid coat of wax helps shield your finish from road salt, gravel, and debris that can chip your paint and expose the metal underneath to rust.
Recap & Winter Readiness Taking an hour or two now to go over your tires, battery, wipers, heating, fluids, and paint protection will save you major headaches once the snow starts falling. Winter driving brings enough surprises as it is—don't let a preventable mechanical issue leave you stranded in the cold. Run through this simple checklist, come check us out ZICMOTO.com, and enjoy peace of mind on the road all season long!
